W-DMX™ at The Pittsburgh 250 Three Rivers Regatta

Uddevalla, Sweden – DECEMBER 13, 2009 – W-DMX by Wireless Solution Sweden AB helped add WOW to the largest inland regatta in the United States with spectacular lighting effects, lasers, strobes and video projections. The Pittsburgh 250 Three Rivers Regatta held on July 4th on Pittsburgh’s North Shore, included the F-1 ChampBoat Series, a July 4 concert by Soul Asylum and a thrilling fireworks and laser display.

Pittsburgh 250 is the celebration of the 250th anniversary of the naming of the region in 1758. With the support of business, government and civic leaders, Pittsburgh 250 has set out to raise awareness, improve communities and attract visitors through a yearlong schedule of events. The Fourth of July celebration was probably the most eye-popping of events, attracting over 400,000 people. The show included over 100 lasers and large format lights, pyrotechnics, synchronized soundtrack, and a mid-river water screen. Lasers were distributed on downtown buildings and on Mount Washington over a 1-mile radius with W-DMX signal and show control via a GrandMA full size console.

Lighting Designer Martin Potoczny used 1 W-DMX BlackBox S-2 Transmitter along with a B-500 Booster to send flawless signal to 6 BlackBox R-512 Receivers. Martin chose 1 W-DMX Outdoor 8 Omni aerial 8dBi antenna, 3 Outdoor 9 Panel aerial antennas and 2 Outdoor 12 Panel aerial 12 dBi to ensure stability in the variety of challenging and distant receiver locations. The receiver points were located on the tops of mountains, tops of skyscrapers and across rivers to control the multitude of effects.

The W-DMX signal was used for over 100 Large Format Big Lights 6.0, Martin MAC 2000 Wash/Spot, plus strobes, water screen, video projectors, and Lightwave International Prism Series High Power Solid State Full Color Lasers (10-13 Watts each). There was not one interruption in signal and the entire show had breathtaking results. Lightwave International supplied the lighting equipment. George Dodworth, owner of Lightwave International was equally as pleased and plans to use W-DMX on future projects.

Martin said, "This project was breathtaking! It is one of my favorite projects I have designed for many reasons – the setting, the grand scale and the audience reaction and positive feedback! This project would not have been possible without W-DMX!"

W-DMX on Le Rêve at WYNN Las Vegas

Le Rêve, now running at the prestigious Wynn Las Vegas Hotel and Casino, is an aquatic spectacular, set in a one million-gallon "stage," featuring diving, acrobatics, and dance - all in a milieu of state-of-the-art lighting and special effects. The production was created by Franco Dragone (Mystere, La Nouba and Céline Dion).

In spring 2007, Jules Fisher and Peggy Eisenhauer of Third Eye Design began a complete redesign of the lighting for Le Rêve. The new design uses over 200 moving lights and a variety of other DMX equipment, including dimmers, strobes, scrollers and LED's, for a total of 36 universes of control. Because the show is designed in the round, with extensive moving sets, wireless DMX control was essential.

After exhaustive testing, the W-DMXT system by Wireless Solution was chosen to solve problems inherent in the original production. Nathan Barmer, Moving Lights Operator, explains, "Initially, we tried a different wireless DMX system, but there was a noticeable lag in the timing of some of the major motion pieces with the lights. I had used W-DMX by Wireless Solution in the past and suggested we try their system instead. It worked perfectly and we have never had another problem."

One W-DMX S-2 transmitter and two R-512 receivers are used to control two universes of moving lights. The fixtures are on a 40-foot-wide carousel, rotating at 4 rpm over the stage. An additional W-DMX S-1 transmitter and three Micro receivers control set pieces, including a lamp post, clock and spell spheres. Barmer adds, "It looks flawless now - very fluid, which is really important for this particular show."

W-DMX distributor TMB supplied the wireless equipment to PRG Las Vegas, who provided and installed the lighting system for Le Rêve. Says TMB's Kent Flemming; "Again and again, experience shows W-DMX to be the only choice for wireless DMX. Equipment selection for Le Rêve involved direct A/B testing with the leading competitive system, under the most challenging conditions, and W-DMX came out the clear winner. We have seen W-DMX do this so many times. As we at TMB say, 'W-DMX just works!' TMB is proud to support such fine companies and people as Wynn Entertainment, Dragone, Third Eye Design and PRG."

The lighting team for Le Rêve is Jules Fisher and Peggy Eisenhauer, Lighting Designers; Stephanie Weiss, Head of Lighting; Nathan Barmer, Moving Lights Operator; Bill Harlow, Assistant Head of Lighting; Nathan Pease, Video Operator; Dale Ripingill, Lead Spot Operator; Owen Penrod, Kristen Doorman, Kim Bagby, and Jess Betts, Spot Operators; Jamie Bell, Deck Electrician; Roger Skinner, Tracer Finn, James Buggie, Melanie Binam, Electricians.

W-DMX at the 2008 Nobel Banquet

SF Marketing Inc, Canadian distributor of W-DMX products in Canada is pleased to announce that Wireless Solution Sweden AB delivered an interference-free DMX signal worthy of a King at the 2008 Nobel Prize Banquet. This is the highest profile event of the year in Sweden, gaining worldwide recognition, following the esteemed Nobel Prize Awards each year. It is always held in the Blue Hall of Stockholm City Hall on December 10. In addition to the King and Queen of Sweden, approximately 1,300 guests attend the event, and it is broadcast live on television.

Per Sundin was again called in as Lighting Designer for the event, an honor bestowed upon him for twelve consecutive years now. Ola Melzig was Production Manager, overseeing all aspects of lighting and video from build up through broadcast.

W-DMXT was used in new ways this year. The product has become a favorite for this specific event for a number of reasons. The Nobel Committee questions the necessity of anything that detracts from the aesthetics of the room during the banquet, and DMX cable is one thing that's easy to replace, as well as being a time saver. "W-DMX is a life saver at this event," said Melzig, "In past years we've used it on moving lights that had W-DMX receivers built in. This year we had to light the Prince's Gallery, where the King holds a reception for the Nobel Laureates. From front of house, The Gallery is on the other side of a room where the Nobel winners were interviewed on live TV, so we couldn't run cable through there. The signal went through three very thick marble walls with no problem whatsoever."

A W-DMXT Generation 3 BlackBox S-1 transmitter was used in combination with a BlackBox B-500 booster and directional antenna to ensure penetration of the three thick stone walls. On the other side, a W-DMX BlackBox R-512 receiver delivered a perfect signal to 6 SGM Genio Mobile LED units. Even in an environment thick with cell phones, live broadcast cameras and numerous radios, none of the W-DMX controlled equipment ever lost signal.
