Spector Debuts Euro 435LX 35" long scale 4 string bass

Spector has just released the Euro435LX bass, a neck through body 4 string bass that features an extra long 35" scale length.

This bass was inspired by a request from Robby Merrill, bassist of Godsmack, who is currently using the first production model in this series. Many bassists today are tuning their 4 string basses to pitches as low as D and C. The longer 35" scale length eliminates a lot of the slop in string vibration that occurs when a .105 E string is tuned down in pitch and provides incredible depth of tone. These neck thru the body basses are handcrafted at our workshop in the Czech Republic. All hardware and other specs are the same as our Euro LX basses. These are also available with either gold or black plated hardware.

The basses come with a standard E-A-D-G tuning with a .105 low E string or can be special ordered tuned B-E-A-D starting with a .130 low B. EMG active P & J pickups and the Spector Tone Pump EQ circuit are standard equipment.

Moog ® Music Announces the highly anticipated Moogerfooger ® MuRF 105B

Moog Music has announced another spine-tingling addition to the Moogerfooger line. The Bass MuRF 105B is currently in production and is expected to make its debut at Winter NAMM in January. The MuRF 105B is a new version of the original award winning MuRF that has been voiced specially for any bass instrument.

The Bass MuRF offers exciting new features such as a lowpass shelving filter on the lowest band with a cutoff frequency of 110 Hz. This means that all very low frequency content passes through the Bass MuRF’s filter section clear and strong. The remaining seven filters are the same great-sounding resonant filters used in the original MuRF, but voiced for lower frequencies. The animation section includes some exciting new beat-oriented patterns and more great diversity of tone-mangling than is capable with the original MuRF. With no animation, the Bass MuRF offers a wealth of tone sculpting capabilities. Whether you play synth bass, bass guitar or bass saxophone, the Bass MuRF is ready to rumble.

Line 6 VARIAX WORKBENCH
Guitarists will now have the tools to customize their Variax guitar on a PC or MAC

Line 6, manufacturers of the world's first modeling guitars and amplifiers, announced the launch of Variax Workbench, the first interactive, virtual custom shop available exclusively for Line 6’s Variax 300, 500 and 700 electric guitars.

This unique product provides guitarists with their own interactive guitar custom shop with all the tools needed to easily create, store, and share guitars they’ve completely customized using a computer. Variax Workbench provides access to an amazing collection of pickups, controls, and bodies allowing guitarists to mix and match parts to create their ideal tone. In real time, guitarists can listen to and tweak the placement and settings of each until they’ve come up with a guitar that is truly unique and meets their creative needs. “With Variax Workbench, guitarists can easily create unlimited custom guitar models for the Variax,” said Marcus Ryle, senior vice president, product development, Line 6. “Ever wonder what a single-coil pickup would sound like on a hollow-body tuned a whole octave down? Probably not. That's because it wasn't a reality… until now.” In addition to the customization of bodies, pickups and sound, guitarists will also be able to create and store custom tunings. Now the T-model setting can be in Open G, the Spank model can be tuned a half-step down, and the Lester model can go to Drop D. Guitarists will be able to create, store, share and backup thousands of guitar models using Workbench's Librarian. It easily keeps track of their custom guitars, stores them on the computer's hard drive, makes them e-mailable to others, or can be used to create a CD-ROM backup to load customized guitars and tunings into any Variax. Workbench enables guitarists to fill each slot on the Variax Model knob and five-way switch with a custom guitar of their own creation. Variax Workbench is a combination USB interface and software package that allows guitarists to see and hear the physical changes to their custom guitar in real time. It is compatible with both Windows PC and Mac OSX computers. A software only version will become available at a later date for Vetta II and PODxt Live owners. (06/2005)

MAPEX INTRODUCES FIVE NEW BLACK PANTHER SNARE MODELS

Mapex announced the addition of five new snare drums to its popular Black Panther lineup. The new models include three new Premium Series Maple Snares, a 10 x 5.5-inch, 13 x 5.5-inch and a 14 x 6.5-inch; a new Deep Forest 14 x 6.5-inch Walnut Snare and a Premium Series 13 x 5.5-inch Brass model. With the release of these drums, Mapex has expanded the Black Panther line to include a group of premium-quality snares that are simpler in design.

These drums still offer the entire array of features that make Black Panther a great snare drum. They have incorporated popular and time-tested cosmetic features such as natural wood grains and chrome hardware without sacrificing the drum sound, feel or reliability. By Mapex making these snares simpler, all drummers can now enjoy the experience of owning a Black Panther. All five models feature chrome hardware, single-point-of-contact lugs and 2.3mm Mapex Powerhoops. All Black Panther Snare Drums are equipped with Remo â heads.

The black-plated 13 x 5.5-inch brass snare (BPBR3551C) and the natural grain 13 x 5.5-inch maple snare (BPML3550CWN) feature a tight, full sound and are perfect for musicians that need a smaller diameter main snare. The 14 x 6.5-inch maple (BPML4650CWN) and the 14 x 6.5-inch walnut (BPWT4650CWN) are ideal multipurpose snares that are capable of delivering whisper-soft brushwork as well as bashing backbeats. A must have sidekick snare drum, the 10 x 5.5-inch maple (BPML0550CWN) comes with its own mounting bracket and can be mounted on a tom holder or sit in a snare basket. Either way, it produces tight and crisp rim-shots as well as subtle and articulate ghost notes.

The Black Panther line of snares has quickly become synonymous with the highest of quality and performance. The product developing team of Black Panther has dedicated themselves to focus on the drummers’ needs and building a line that addresses those needs. (06/2005)

MOOG MUSIC ® RACKS UP MINIMOOG VOYAGER®

The critically acclaimed, award winning MiniMoog® Voyager is now available in a new 19” Rack Mount Edition. The Rack Mount Edition (RME) is five units high and, with optional wood sides, doubles as a tabletop synth. The RME’s rear panel delivers all of the same extensive input/output resources that are available on the Voyager via its MIDI IN, THRU, and OUT connectors, four audio input and output jacks, and two accessory port connectors. The output accessory port connects the RME’s 21 control and gate outputs to the VX-351 Voyager CV Output Expander, while the input accessory port connects the 18 control and gate inputs to the VX-352 Voyager CV Input Expander (available soon).

The RME features audio outputs that are switchable between -2dBm unbalanced (musical instrument) and +4dBm balanced 600 W (professional audio) configurations.
